Finishing one’s life in a state of confusion is a terrifying thought. Thus it is with Charles Wright’s poem in which images of death and birth are intertwined in a dance of death. It’s the loss of control as one slides into oblivion, unable to prepare oneself for the next transition and losing already the memories that sustain a life well lived.
The brain is the organ of thought and learning. Even people with a relatively unsophisticated knowledge of learning understand this. New techniques of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) allow us to view activation of specific regions of the brain during cognitive processes.
